While slowly moving away from the spring, easing into the summer with the weather still brisk and rainy, let's take a look at the filmic highlights awaiting the horror fan in Berlin...
Underdogs Marathon May 23rd, start at 2 pm
The Berlin Final Girls surprises with a whole Saturday full of films this weekend at the Filmrauschpalast! I'm especially excited for the short film screening which was curated by a genius team of various film festival programmers, yay!
Dolly June 6th
I saw Dolly at the Fantasy Filmfest Nights this past winter and it is one of my top movies of this year already. And I always love re-watching my favorite movies, so no way will I miss the screening at the Creepy Crypt.
There are a couple of good movie showings at the Boulevard Noir series in Yorck Kino. That is, I've read the synopsis and they sound good, but I'll see if they'll turn out worth watching, though I really trust Yorck's selection; Seconds (May 21th); Key Largo (June 18th) and To Live and Die in L.A. (July 2nd). Also, in the Screen Legends series they'll be showing Stand by Me (May 26th) and The Truman Show (July 12th, 15th, 28th).
Even though not all open air cinemas have announced their programs yet, some of them did. Unfortunately, only few movies could move me to go and watch them, especially if the weather stays the way it is (each year the same thing, I really wish for a nice summer this year). One that stuck out and I might visit if the weather is good is Lost Highway (June 12th, 9:45 pm), it is in Freiluftkino Insel which is at Tempelhof, I used to live nearby and I want to go to new open air cinemas, so yeah, sounds good. The Freilichtbühne Weißensee continues its GDR series in which they show movies from a country that is no more... We'll remember it with these movies; Kennen Sie Urban? (June 11th), Alle Meine Mädchen (June 18th), Die Schlüssel (June 25th), Eolomea (July 2nd), Elefant im Krankenhaus (July 9th).
Also in the Freilichtbühne Weißensee the Final Girls will be celebrating Midsomar with A Midsummer's Nightmare - Dark Folk Tales on June 19th.
And finally, there are some titles that sound good that will have their theatrical release this summer, I found some that I'd like to see, notably: Mother Mary (release in Germany tomorrow), Wolves (May 21st), Passenger (May 28th), Truly Naked (June 11), Backrooms (June 18th), Ice Cream Man (August 6th), and Teenage Sex And Death At Camp Miasma (August 20th). I'm still not seeing any release date for Hokum 🤷🏻♀️😭. If they don't release it this summer, they might as well screen it at the Fantasy Filmfest in September. Until then, stay safe!
