Beware Of A Girl's Wrath - Reviewing "Der Fan"

As usual, there are spoilers all over this review and it would be best to watch the movie before reading!

...the Soul of Wit - Short Reviews

As the year nears its end, I'm honestly getting a little anxious if I will be able to read all the books I wanted to read in my challenges (clue: no, I won't, I took on too much and didn't plan well, but I will not give up and will keep on trying) and what my best books of the year will be, but that last one isn't that much of a mystery because I think I know my selection already, haha. I'm just leaving it to publish them in a month or so, because who knows, maybe I'll read the book of my life within that one month, although I wouldn't hold my breath. Enjoy the short reviews until then!

A Maybe Joke - Reviewing Chandler Morrison's "Dead Inside"

If you haven't read Chandler Morrison's Dead Inside and are sensitive about spoilers, it's maybe not the best idea to read my post before you've read this book, as I'm discussing things which might be considered spoilers. I just don't think knowing these would considerably reduce the enjoyment you can get out of it, as the beauty is inside the book, not in the description of its plot.

A November Treat from The Final Girls Berlin

How delightful, on November 22nd a double feature is brought to us by a collaboration between Cathode Cinema and the Final Girls Berlin Film Fest to the City Kino Wedding!

...the Soul of Wit - Short reviews

I'm having a good reading month, so here are the new short reviews a little earlier than usual. Enjoy!

James Aquilone's Shakespeare Horror Anthology Unleashes Awesomeness

Spectacular! Another excellent horror anthology by Chrystal Lake Publishing, and this time the contributing authors were asked to write and put their own dark twists into the works of William Shakespeare. Beware before starting to read this, though - a rudimentary knowledge on featured plays would provide an additional level of appreciation for the reader, and I don't think they should be sufficiently enjoyable if you don’t know the source plays. So I definitely recommend to at least read the Wikipedia entries of the original works, it will be so much more rewarding. There are 42 contributions in total - so the number of highlights in this already wonderful anthology is accordingly high. And so is the number of stories and poems revolving around neglected characters or characters treated unfairly by The Bard, in an attempt to give them redemption or show their own points of view, bringing about a dark but karmic quality. Yes, “REVENGE” in capital letters is the motto for th

Based on Books - "American Psycho" by Bret Easton Ellis

Ever since I (re)watched American Psycho (2000, directed by Mary Harron) last week as the feature film at the Final Girls Berlin Halloween showing, I feel a little bit obsessed with this picture. The first time I saw it must have been fifteen or even twenty years ago and I felt so in awe with the gore and horror back then that I had completely failed to see this film for what it really is - a brilliant and monumental satire. I went home on Halloween night and still couldn't get this movie out of my head - the audience's giggles, the creeping and growing insanity, and Christian Bale fully owning the iconic personage Patrick Bateman...

...the Soul of Wit - Short Reviews

A new month is here, time for the new shorties again! Even though October is the epitome for horror for most people, I now realize that I haven't been reading much scary stuff but rather normal, maybe a little creepy contemporary literature and darkish fantasy. When the weather gets darker I really enjoy reading short stories most, I don't know why, but that's how it is. Probably because they're rationable, one or two stories per evening per collection or anthology are perfect, and they don't require much commitment but are still rewarding. I've been stocking on a lot of anthologies and collections, so I'll probably be reading lots of shorties for the rest of the fall/winter. I hope you had a great month, enjoy the new short reviews!
