End of the year also means deciding which books to take along into the
new year and which ones can find their way to new owners who will
appreciate them more than I do.
Before they
wander into the second hand sections of the Hammett or Otherland Bookstores, or the
phone booth little free library at the end of my street, I'm giving you
guys the choice to take any of the books in the picture you may want. 👉
These are mostly review copies, but I included some books I bought myself, some I have never read, and presumably never will read, or some I want to listen as audiobook rather than eye read. It's better and only fair someone who will actually read them takes them, and not just lets them sit around. Please don't hesitate at all and seize the opportunity!
We do it like this:
When you find a book you'd like to have, please send an email with the title of the book and your name (or any name you want to give) to proteandepravity@gmail.com.
I will then leave the book(s) in the pick-up section of the Hammett Bookstore under the name you gave, and send you a mail that you can pick them up as soon as they are ready. Then you can go there and say "I'd like to pick up a book for (your name)". That's it. You can write until end of 2025 and get the book if it is still available.
The giveaway books are:
- A Feast of Putrid Delights by Valentina Rojas - A really interesting novella about a drug that helps you find your superpower! The cover is amazing too.
Beautiful Days by Zach Williams - A short story collection of a different sort. Well worth a try.
Network Effect by Martha Wells - I was a fan of the Murderbot books when they were first published, but there was a big interval between the first three books and the follow up, and in that time I lost track. The same thing happened with Ada Palmer's Terra Ignota series, by the way. Unread copy.
Hana by Alena Mornštajnová - A souvenir from Prague, I think I want to listen to the audiobook of, unread copy.
Snuff by Eric Enck and Adam Huber - Obviously uncomfortable to read, not for everyone.
Agony's Lodestone by Laura Kealing - Unread review copy.
Ein widerliches kleines Gefühl by Regina Nössler - I really liked this book, I generally like Nössler's books, but I don't keep many crime books in my library, since I usually only read them once and never again. So I don't have one, but together with Die Putzhilfe, two of her books to give away, for anyone who wants to read.
Poor Things by Alasdair Gray - The book to the sensationally successful movie from last year.
Die Closer to Me by David Kuhnlein - A good book I personally couldn't really get into, maybe you can appreciate it more than I did?
Murder Ballads and Other Horrific Tales by John Hornor Jacobs - A good short story collection, although not on the excellent level this author is capable of.
The Pain Eater by Kyle Muntz - Unread review copy.
They Do the Same Things Different Here by Robert Shearman - A wonderfully weird short story collection which is printed in way too small letters for my old eyes...
Gateways to Abomination by Matthew M. Bartlett - Bartlett's infamous short fiction collection includes bite-sized chunks of indie horror, a little repetitive, but well worth reading.
Nightingale by Amy Lukavics - Unread copy, young adult novel.
Sallow Bend by Alan Baxter - Unread copy, horror.
The Psychographist by Carson Winter - Unread copy, horror novella.
The Nightmare Box by Cynthia Gómez - short story collection.
Old Soul by Susan Barker - I have received two copies of this book, one from Hammett and one from a friend who was also cleaning out her shelves, and I'm giving away one.
Please don't hesitate to reach out, I'm happy to give these away!
