Let us, for a brief moment, shift our focus to one of Berlin's most interesting film curators in the field of independent cinema: Eli Lewy. When she's not planning one of the many Final Girls Berlin events, she has her own thing going and is orchestrating numerous projects, all in Berlin. Here are two of her projects, two film series that might interest you guys, one ongoing and the other starting in December.
The first screening will be of the 2024 black comedy Vulcanizadora by Joel Potrykus. Eli says the less you know about this movie the better, so I'll take her word on this one and won't even give a synopsis.
Eli's second film series is "Birds of a Feather" which is a series dedicated to female friendship movies, and I love that concept so much!
This event is not new, in fact the next double screening which will take place this Wednesday, November 19th (screenings are free and at @oblomov_berlin) at 7 pm is the 23rd installment already.
So, on Wednesday you can watch the 1977 Diane Kurys film Peppermint Soda and the 1992 Penny Marshall flick A League of Their Own.
These aren't the movie events of gore, doom, and gloom I usually recommend, but I have been feeling weary for a while, and I've been writing it here too that real life is kind of getting to me, so this just might be the variation I need right now.
There will also soon be a panel discussion at the Otherland, possibly within two weeks (we're super disorganized and don't have a date yet), the guests are Morgane Caussarieu, Caro Kohler and myself, and the theme we'll be talking about is Body Horror. I'll let you know the date when I have it. Have a great time until then!
